Raising awareness about waste reduction is necessary since our actions to reduce waste are greater in numbers.  While visiting and photographing local landfill sites, the enormity of waste became a reality; I felt nauseated after each visit.  I took action to spread the word by writing to our local newspaper and engaging in public speaking by way of presentations and radio broadcastings.  I took action to motivate others like yourself to be conscious consumers in avoiding over-packaged products, avoiding single use products by replacing them with reusable materials, and reducing the need for shipping materials by supporting local farmer’s markets.  My family discards one bag of garbage every eight to ten weeks; challenge yourself to reduce the amount of waste you create.
